Infrastructure

As we move into the Normalization Phase of #WFH/ #shelterinplace/ #socialdistancing, it is a great time to focus on building your marketing infrastructure.  Here are five things to review and refresh. Click on the buttons to see details and items to think about as you update:

Your Website

No need to tear the thing down, simply refresh.

  1. Start by looking at your Google Analytics. Are there pages that have barely been visited in the past 6-12 months?  Think about taking them down.
  2. Review bios – do dates/time/length of experience need to be updated? Are titles and roles the same? Have you added staff that are not currently listed?
  3. Can/should you update the images throughout the site?
  4. Does copyright info in the footer need to be updated, have you tested the contact forms, do you have all your social media links up (and for goodness sake get rid of the Google + icon), are your hours of operation correct, etc.?

Social Media

Get aligned and organized

  1. Review your social sites.
  2. Check the business information and description. Does it align with your website?
  3. Is the site a mini version of the look and feel of your website?
  4. Have you claimed all your social sites (even if you are not going to use them)? Sites should be updated/set up for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn. Depending on your business you might want to set up a TicTok page, Snap Chat channel, or even a What’s App business page.
  5. Check out your posts – take note of which kinds of posts are getting the most traction and plan to create more like that. (And while you are there, check out competitors as well and see the posts that are trending).

Email Templates

Build on Success

  1. Simplify – look at the metrics. What’s getting clicked on and what is not? Get rid of anything that is not driving clicks.
  2. Do you have your social media icons on the template? If not add them.
  3. Check out the bounce rate. Is it time to clean up your database?
  4. Is it time to expand your database? Have you imported the latest client contact list, your network contact, etc.?
  5. See who the emails are “from” – is that the right person in your organization? Will all your contacts recognize that email address?

Access

Passwords and privileges

  • Think about who has access to your website, social sites, and email software. Are they all still with you? Think about updating passwords and privileges within each platform.

Digital Filing Systems

Data and organization

  • Clean it up – Take a look at your files – is your system serving you? Could a different organization system work better for your business? Can you easily find files you are looking for?
  • Free up space – Are there old files you can get rid of, or move to an external drive or digital server?
  • Update templates – Do your templates have you more up-to-date branding information? Are they accurate?
