Why do you have a website?

A friend of mine recently started a business. She created a website that was filled with lots of information and beautiful imagery. But after several months, it became clear that almost none of her business was coming from her website. Wondering why, she did some research.

It turns out that people were overwhelmed by the amount of information provided. What they really wanted was to know how to contact her, and since that wasn’t clear on her site they bailed not long after arriving.

My friend had been using her site as a showcase of everything she does, when what she needed it to do was to drive business.

We see businesses making this mistake often. Things have changed – people spend a good portion of their lives on the internet now. When we visit a site, we know what we are looking for, and if we don’t see it quickly, we look elsewhere.

Maybe it’s time to ask yourself – what is your website for? What do you want the consumers to do? Are you trying to get them to contact you? Read your blog? Buy your product? Whatever it is, make sure that what you have to offer and why the viewer should interact with your site is very clear and easy to find.

It can be difficult to discern if your site is fulfilling the right purpose for your business. If you would like a fresh set of eyes, give us a call! We would love to take a look at it for you and give you some tips.
