Relief

All day, every day I’m in the same chair, same office, same screen, same people (could we trade children or spouses or something? Okay, disregard that last comment.), same zoom meeting protocols, same food choices, same shows on Netflix…yadda yadda yadda.

It’s time for a change and I’m making changes for sanity’s sake. I’m setting out to do things that are the opposite of what I normally do. Let me give you the low down:

  • I get up a half hour later… because I can
  • I paint and draw first thing in the morning instead of working out
  • I have stopped listening to the news in the morning. I listen to music instead. And I mix it up. These days I’m listening to classical to start my day more slowly because the news was sending me into orbit before I’d even opened my first email.
  • I intentionally reach out to people I haven’t spoken to in a while or entirely new people. I need new conversations and perspectives
  • I’m reading different books…on topics I know nothing about…about people I know nothing about. I just started a book by a British rabbi.
  • I’m asking people different kinds of questions. I got the owner of an Engineering firm to talk about dropping engineering and spending his time on creative endeavors. He went with me on it. (He needs to shake things up, too)

The point is – Life is monotonous today. Being intentional, we need to try different things.

Now take it a step further. What are you doing differently at work? How can you shake things up to help your customers? I’m not talking things you should have been doing all along. I’m talking about things way outside the box.  Because right now we need to get out of these COVID boxes we are living in. Out of the house when possible, trying different things, thinking differently. Stretching ourselves.

We’d love to hear of any changes you’ve made. Send us your ideas.
