Keep moving

I’ve had a home office for over 20 years. This work-from-home thing is a no-brainer for me. But sitting at my desk all day, every day is not my norm. No café hopping . No ambient noise. No human interaction when I’m at my desk all day.

So, I have created 5 new workable locations in my house:

  • Café Kitchen – early morning spot that has quick access to unlimited coffee and if I get there early enough, I can work undisturbed for a few hours
  • My office – remains unchanged, the hub of my thinking and work. It’s blue so I’m happy to be surrounded by my favorite color and pictures of the people I love and art by my favorite artists (Joseph Albers).
  • The outdoor café – Wi-Fi service is limited and often there are planes flying overhead (I live in the air path of Hanscom) but I get fresh air, birds chirping and feel invigorated. This is where I go to lift my spirits, feel alive and productive.
  • The executive suite (you thought I was going to say the bathroom, didn’t you?). This is my dining room. It has a large surface for spreading out. It is in the main flow of the house but not a room others frequent because it is formal.
  • The reading lounge – I moved a comfy chair from the living room to a corner of my bedroom that gets great light. This is where I go to read, cogitate, and write letters.

What solutions are you creating for yourself?
