Guardrails
Our routines have been shaken up. Most of us are now working in a new environment – our homes! It’s easy to treat it like a never-ending snow day, clad in PJs, filling in the blank spots in our normal routine with a snack or YouTube or spending all your time just responding to email because you are dying for some human interaction.
It’s a good idea to set up some guardrails – simple rules that will keep you feeling positive and productive. Here are a few ideas:
- Packing your lunch – literally pack your lunch, set it on the counter, and only eat what you packed
- Go for a 20-minute walk every day at a set time
- Set your alarm and don’t hit snooze
- Work hard from 7 – 3 then have a streaming binge
- Call three friends each day to stay connected
Discipline is a muscle. You have to flex it and you have to rest it. Setting guardrails helps you keep from cramping the discipline muscle.
