Change is good
This week I had 9 in-person meetings scheduled. All of them were cancelled. Well, not entirely… 4 of them were changed to virtual meetings.
The reality of the COVID-19 health crisis is causing us to change our behaviors. If you are like me, you are starting to feel a bit lonely. The house feels small. Everything is too quiet. I’m not hearing or seeing many cars go by. Nobody’s knocking on the door. My phones are not ringing. But I’m getting texts and social media and links to articles on everything COVID-19.
Today, I decided to make a list of people I was missing. Not just those that I see regularly, but people from my past, too. I decided to start making phone calls. I usually text or use social media. The phone calls have been uplifting. I hear a familiar, comforting voice. I experience a real connection that I can’t get from texting and social.
Give it a try. Make a list. Start calling people. (Facetime, Zoom, Uber Conference are even better.) Your loneliness will recede. Your home won’t feel so small. I even found myself turning off the TV and playing music instead. I took a long walk and got some fresh air. The behavior changes feel so good.
If you have behavior changes that are working for you, please share.
