What we have learned designing client websites

Our clients are from different industries, each having their own brand personality and communications objectives.

That said, there are 9 things that we have found to be important for all of them.

  1. Simplify the navigation. It’s amazing how welcoming your site can be without complex navigation.
  2. Think mobile use. More than 37% of adults access the internet via their smart phones, a trend that continues to increase year over year. Provide a quality experience to users on mobile.
  3. Less is more. We all have too much clutter in our lives. Let’s clean up our wardrobe, our house and our website, too.
  4. Bold colors can intrigue. Use color to help with user experience and interface, making it easier for them to intuit you site.
  5. Typography can create impact, too. You don’t always need to use images and videos.
  6. Simplify your copy formats. Shorter sentences and paragraphs make it easier to glean through content. Use bullets, icons and graphics to help tighten up your content. These all help your users move quickly through the material and find just what they are looking for.
  7. Carefully consider load times and page speed. Adding images and videos increases the time it takes for pages to load. If users feel they are waiting too long, they move on. Don’t get us wrong, creating the compelling experience, you desire is important, too, but at the same time carefully consider load times. It’s important to your users.
  8. Organic shapes feel contemporary and fresh. Most website templates and graphics are linear (i.e. boxy). Using organic shapes feels different, refreshing, and unique… just like how you want your brand to be perceived.
  9. Make your Call-To-Action buttons (CTAs) stand out. You want users to click on them, right? So, make it easy for your users to find them.
